alright. here are my plans for the "(un)finishing touches" portion of the project. i could definitely use suggestions to flesh out these ideas!
in d.c.'s "home zone", i want to have a poster (cut in the shape of a house?) with little sentence fragments written all over it, including "home feels ___.", "home is where ____.", "home is like ___.", etc. passers-by are encouraged to come and fill in the sentences. or...maybe it would be more engaging to have the house broken into a bunch of pieces like a puzzle, with an unfinished sentence on each piece. the sentence is filled in and then the piece can be pinned/taped to its place. i'm wondering where this could be set up in the zone? perhaps in the entrance to dc 1? or more than one residence hall lobby?
in amy's "busy zone", i thought it would be really cool (and engaging) to have a big sign (on pray-harrold's second floor or the main floor in marshall?) that just says "FINAL EXAMS". i would be sitting by the sign, maybe with another group member, with small pieces of paper that say "after finals, i will ___." and "during finals week, i hope to ___." and so on. we would be standing by with tape, or packs of gum, which i think would make it more fun, for people to fill in the uncompleted sentence and then "stick it to their exams." i'd like to set this up closer to the beginning of the week to give people plenty of time to respond and engage with it.
in my "rec/leisure/fun zone", i want to make and set up a big haiku book, decorated and filled with incomplete haikus. some will be missing only a word, others will be missing entire lines, and some pages will be completely blank, an encouragement to the visitor to write an entire poem of their own. i wonder if it would be a good idea to use haikus that already exist, with deleted words/lines that people can fill in, or if group members and i should write them ourselves? i'd like the book to be at least 10 pages, and not with just one haiku on each page.
also, for this zone.. i'm not sure how this could be utilized or who might have an idea for it, but i like the weird new sidewalk that splits the parking lot between the field house and the parking structure. that could definitely be a good place for an installment (a series of signs along the path?).
i'm having a difficult time thinking of something to install for alessa's "old/abandoned zone", but i'd like to focus on using some kind of material object that occupies space, a thing that can be added onto or built 3-dimensionally, since all my other ideas are focused more on writing.
thanks for any and all feedback! sorry it took me so long to produce my ideas. i think we all have some great stuff to work with and i'm excited for our execution!!
